THE GOLDSMITH

marcelo di gesù

Marcelo Di Gesù is an Italo-Argentinian goldsmith artist whose family roots trace back to Arab and Spanish cultures. Having settled in Argentina as a child, he immediately nurtured a strong passion for art in all its forms, inspired by a stimulating family environment blending interconnected cultures. In 1978, he graduated from the Conservatory in piano and composition while beginning to discover the allure of craftsmanship by working as an illustrator in an artistic glasswork.

His love for jewelry was born alongside his brother Giuseppe David, with whom he shares a spirit of research and experimentation, the same drive that led him to travel to Bolivia in search of inspiration. There, Giuseppe spent two years learning all the secrets and techniques of goldsmithing from an elderly goldsmith descended from the Incas, who welcomed him into his workshop and taught him the ancient Inca engraving techniques.

Back in Argentina, he shared his newfound knowledge with Marcelo, who specialized instead in Etruscan craftsmanship with the specific goal of bringing innovation and modernity to the vast heritage of goldsmith traditions, enhancing them by giving them a new contemporary soul.

His need to express a strong artistic identity, characterized by visual research translated into stylized, elegant, and dynamic designs, led him to move to Italy, his paternal homeland, where in 1990 he founded the Jesus Di goldsmith atelier together with his wife Maria.

Jesus Di established itself in the Italian goldsmith scene by presenting private exhibitions and events in Milan, Rome, Venice, and soon expanded to the international markets of Germany and Japan, reaching the United Arab Emirates in 2004. In Dubai, in particular, it forged fruitful and lasting professional relationships with the jewelry house Dhamani 1969.

In 2008, Jesus Di created and showcased the High Jewelry collection The Palm, dedicated to the newly inaugurated Palm Jumeirah, the renowned artificial island, a global symbol of luxury, built on the waters of Dubai.

Also in 2008, Marcelo returned to Italy, where he became close to the Vatican environment, long a symbol of Italian artistic patronage. He thus created a ring for Pope Benedict XVI, which was presented during a private audience the following year.

The ring, entirely handcrafted in 18kt white and yellow gold, embodies metaphors and symbolism: the cross is made from two olive branches found and gathered by Marcelo during one of his customary walks in the Apulian countryside, a long-standing source of inspiration.

The olive branch represents a symbol of Peace, Mercy, and Passion; the white gold shell above it, also present on the papal coat of arms, symbolizes the spiritual journey toward God, marked by rebirth and purification; the 0.70 ct diamond placed on the right corner is a metaphor for Light and Spirit.

The yellow gold band encircling the ring is composed of two dove wings embracing it, one of the most powerful symbols in Christian tradition.

Jesus Di continues to innovate its High Jewelry collection, working over the following years in close collaboration with the worlds of the Vatican, art, and entertainment, both Italian and international. The atelier creates unique pieces that blend the goldsmith’s unmistakable artistic style with the client’s aesthetic and emotional vision, ensuring that each jewel tells its own story, always grounded in fully handcrafted, Made in Italy excellence.

Today, Jesus Di is carried forward by goldsmith Marcelo and his daughter Marcela, remaining faithful to the rigorous artisanal standards with the goal of preserving the uniqueness and excellence of its jewelry across generations, offering creations of timeless luxury to those who, like us, believe in, aspire to, and cultivate exclusivity.
